  • On 29 April, the cabinet largely adopted the advice from the Social and Economic Council (SER) on granting health and safety services. As it appears now, this means that the obligation to involve a health and safety service will disappear in the long term. Companies will acquire more freedom in dealing with working conditions and controlling absenteeism. The Parliament is now considering a legislative proposal. If it approves it, the modifications are expected to be implemented gradually starting in mid-2005.

In future, sectors and companies may decide themselves how they deal with the prevention and supervision of absenteeism. You are currently obligated to engage a health and safety service for this purpose. With the consent of the trade unions, works council or staff representation, it will later be possible for a sector or company to do that itself or engage another party for this purpose.
